Dr Demelza Marlin


Demelza Marlin is a recent arrival to the HDR Learning Skills team. She is a passionate advocate of critical reading and reflective writing practices and believes these are essential for developing ethical and sustainable research practices in the PhD and beyond. She runs writing courses and workshops that assist HDR students to engage meaningfully and joyfully with the research process. Demelza is also a practicing sociologist. She is co-author of the ethnographic book, On Bondi Beach, with Ann Game and Andrew Metcalfe. Together, they moderate the popular sociology blog Living in relation. Her research interests include narratives of disenchantment, the semiotics of incarnation and forms of belonging and being. She is currently researching experiences of belonging and care in Indigenous sports coaching.
