Higher Degree Research

Cotutelle/Joint Degree

Macquarie International HDR Marketing & Development office handles all agreements for cotutelle/joint PhDs, including the current schedule of priority partners.

PhD programs from more than one university

This can be undertaken in one of two ways:

Cotutelle

This is a simultaneous enrolment in a PhD at Macquarie and one of its partner universities that will enable candidates to submit one thesis for joint recognition. About half of the candidate’s time will be spent at each university under the supervision of researchers. Following completion of the research, candidates will be examined at each University and if satisfactory, awarded two testamurs, one from each institution.

Joint Degree

This is a joint PhD award program with selected international research-intensive universities. Candidates admitted to this program will undertake research in both universities. Subject to satisfactory completion of all agreed award requirements and examination at just one institution, the two universities will jointly award a degree of Doctor of Philosophy to the candidate, who will receive a single testamur bearing the crests of both universities.

Combined research and coursework degrees

Only a limited number of students will be accepted into combined degrees.
